Coronavirus....The battle against fear

Dear readers, A little lesser that two years ago, I began writing in this blog. A person who was considered "introverted" in the traditional and almost confining sense, I took to writing as a means of comfort and self-expression, a means through which I could reflect upon my thoughts, actions and ideas, and if I was fortunate enough, aspire change. Words were not so much as a means of communication, but a way of life. Although 2 years does not spur ample growth, I consider myself mature enough to reflect upon the past, and as I do so, I realize that my content and all that I wrote, were fruits I bore from the seeds of hope, a yearning for a better and more equal world. Nonetheless, as we face this the repercussions of the coronavirus lock down, I have been forced to face the stark realities of our world, and while I consider myself one of the most privileged people to be living such a comfortable life despite the situation, what little I have been exposed to, causes me to...

I am a feminist...are you?

Image
Feminism. While reading the title, I am assured of the fact that 90% of my viewers(if I have managed to scrounge a few) would have sighed out loud and wondered why I seek to talk about this topic that has almost become a cliche, for while some find the topic to be "overrated" others secretly harbor the notion that feminism is but one of those movements that is a short-lived craze, a"fad" if you will. My desire to write this article was due to a rather interesting statistic I read online, which stated that according to a 2015 poll, while 18% of Americans consider themselves feminists, 85% said they believed in "equality for women", and the harsh undertones of irony in the very responses, that people believed feminism and gender  equality were at two opposite ends of the spectrum  was when I realized society's fallacious belief and lack of understanding on what feminism truly entails.  So in lieu to bust the stigma that encapsulates our society...

Reading list 2019

Dear Readers, It is finally December! Although a cliche, I cannot believe how quickly time has flown by. I do not believe in new year resolutions as to me, it is another manner in which we humans procrastinate and come up with unrealistic and unnecessary expectations for ourselves and those around us. That being said, I would really like to write in my blog more often as it is only when I my fingers move swiftly across the keypad, thoughts are flowing through me much too fast for me to jot down and I pour my heart onto an open platform, that I understand why I began writing a blog in the first place. The prime reason I failed to write as much as I would like to is as this year is as I have had a plethora of tasks to attend to such my Trinity examinations of Speech and Drama, Vocals and Guitar, my DELE examinations for Spanish, the duty of being a good School Captain, an endless amount of school work and tests, and of course, the difficulties we face being human. It would be wrong of...

Love, not war

Dear Readers,  Recently, I was shown a picture which inspired me to write a poem.   The picture consisted of soldiers holding out their large rifles towards a man. Rater than displaying a defiant act of violence however, this individual had a cluster of flowers in his hand and held  them out, placing them in place of the bullets. I found this image extremely unique because it captures so the very essence of our modern day war and conflict. Our various nations, communities and races fight wars based upon the age old conflict of gods, glory, the gods and land, fought eons ago by our ancestors due to the various boundaries and misunderstandings that obstructed inter-cultural understanding. I find that today, the battles we fight are futile, and it is most of the time that so engrossed in our ego, we fail to remember what it is we were fighting for in the first place. War has become a one-sided phenomenon, for it is the prejudices of a select few that causes harm t...

Stand strong

H ello Everyone. I haven't posted anything in a while as I have been preoccupied with exams followed by annual day preparation. Today however, I got the time and this is a poem I have written on how we feel about ourselves. I myself at times feel like I am inferior to others or that others try to bring me down but I try to reflect and this is what I have come to realize.I know that many people feel alone and like no one can understand them but hopefully this poem will help us appreciate and love ourselves.  If they try to pull you down,  Then don't get pulled at all  If they try to make you fall  Stand up twice as proud and tall If they are the cause of your tears  Make them reactants of success If they try to bring out the worst in you Then exhibit your very best If they say that you are not  Then prove them wrong by showing that you are If they try to spur unhappiness Consider them bumps in the road and travel far If they laug...

Serendipity

Image
Hello everyone! A few days ago I was given the golden opportunity to visit Singapore International School and take part in a poetry writing competition in which to my surprise and delight, I stood second place. Our task was to describe a picture. The picture was of a bus window(like the local ones in India) with rails and outside the window was a view of a few street shops and carts. This poem was my perception on the image.  Serendipity As she looked out the windows, Of the rattled old bus,  she felt caged, Yet yearned to be free. Like a mockingbird in a cage, she longed to soar yet feared her destiny. What would it be like, to be in control? Work hard for daily bread and butter To depend solely, upon oneself? Everyday discovering something new That you never knew was part of you Like the several adventurers on her bookshelf. What she seldom failed to see, Was the misfortune and the struggle, She had the gift of vision, yet she was ...
